Christmas Hut Meet in Snowdonia

6 December 2014

Our now traditional Christmas Hut Meet at Caseg Fraith. Turned out to be a corker of a weekend – helped by the sunniest and mildest weather imaginable for late November, and a superb turn-out, making for a super socialable full hut.

Sunset from Glyders - and, yes, headtorches carried and used!

Potted highlights below:

  • Grooved Arete seeing multiple ascents – sometimes wet, sometimes dry
  • Curly Rich and Matt J having success on Dinas Cromlech (Cemetery Gates and Left Wall, respectively
  • Adventurous excursion over to Atlantic Slab for Matt, Mark E and Andy
  • Long, long walk over the Glyders for Tim et al, always in beautiful sunshine, oft with inversion
  • Chom and Tristan eyeing up slate routes for 2015
  • Thanks to Dave W for feeding us a hearty combination of spiced butternut squash soup, turkey baps and homemade mince pies
  • Thanks to Catherine for the Penguin-by-the-Trigpoint Christmas cake
  • A record fundraising year for Oggie Mountain Rescue – over £1900 (before GiftAid) when taking the Everest Challenge into account
  • Thanks for Oggie talking to us about their year – both Bramble and Catherine approved of the heroic dog rescues
  • Curly Rich getting a reminder that his final mortgage payment is due – hopefully then allowing him to invest in a physio to sort his knee out…
  • Breakaway faction to the Climbers Hut, possibly seeking showers and the opportunity to blow-dry / perm / straighten their hair (well, JP and Peter N, perhaps!)
  • Andy getting progressively more battered under the careful leadership of Chom and Ben
  • Ruth heading off to do North Ridge of Tryfan and Bristly Ridge for the FIRST TIME!
  • Gentile walk around the outskirts of Betws: enough for Ellis’ tired legs, but too much for Mike’s knackered knees
