We welcome all climbers and mountaineers.
If you’re new to climbing, we ask only that you meet the minimum requirements to climb and belay top roped routes unsupervised at Blue Spider. Blue Spider offers both introductions to climbing and competency tests.
Once you are climbing competently indoors with members it’s possible to start climbing outside. Book onto a suitable trip, but please let the organiser know, in advance, if this is your first outdoor climb or you will be developing any new skills on the meet.
New experiences and development of skills are often gained via unpaid peer-to-peer skill sharing on meets although we also encourage formal training from suitably qualified instructors e.g. when transitioning from Sport to Trad or from second to lead or single pitch to multi-pitch etc. and to ensure both that you have the most up to date information and have not skipped any essentials.
Climbing in the mountains can also require some mountain walking skills like navigation, first aid and dealing with weather and remoteness. In summary, the Club provides the perfect environment to enjoy using your skills while learning from those around you and or professional instructors. However, it should be noted that the ethos of the Club is that of a group of friends taking on shared responsibility, and so it is important that new members recognise the risks they are undertaking and feel comfortable in assessing these for themselves.
