The GMC is a local club for adults of all genders, ages and capability who want to spend time outdoors engaged in mountaineering activities with people who have similar interests and who want to share the outdoor experience with other people.
We only ask that you climb safely, within your capabilities, with consideration for others, the environment and respect all BMC access restrictions. The Club expects all members to ensure that they are acting safely and that they are prepared to stop an activity if they are not comfortable with the risk involved.
Currently the main activity is summer rock climbing in all its forms (trad, sport, single pitch and multi pitch). Members also participate in bouldering, winter climbing, hill walking, and wild camping.
The Club primarily arranges a list of day and weekend trips starting around Easter each year and finishing by the end of October. Members can also arrange other trips on an ad hoc basis through the Clubs WhatsApp groups.
Trips normally involve camping, so you will need some basic camping equipment. We try to camp near a pub for evening food and drinks, but this is not always possible.
A foreign trip to a warmer climate is also typically on the agenda each year, either in the spring or autumn.
The Club does not offer any formal training, but members will share their knowledge. The Club highly recommends that you obtain professional tuition if you are a new or inexperienced climber or you are returning to climbing after a long absence from the sport.
