Chairman’s update

23 July 2026

After the successful introduction of What’s App group chats for meets, I’m delighted to see another leap forward with this revitalised website which Paul Davies has crafted on behalf of us all. A key feature has been to make it as mobile phone friendly as possible.

It’s also been great to see membership increase with some very well attended official meets including three recent trips with attendance in double figures. The Gower trip has just surpassed the Peaks trip with 14 attendees. Huge thanks to Mike for planning these and a shout out to Charlotte for attending more meets than anyone (although Anthea, Mike and Tom are only one trip behind).

What’s next? It’s been noted that, although on a Wednesday, we represent a good proportion of all the climbers at Blue Spider, we are not generally visible. It’s often hard to recognise fellow club members, especially new ones. We’d like to encourage more wearing of club T shirts, perhaps getting a batch for all members new and longstanding. Delighted to hear your thoughts on this.

Lastly, a few words on safety.  Recently we’ve had a few reports of small rocks landing near people both whilst climbing and also whilst grabbing a snack close to a crag, so please be mindful of when to wear that helmet.
Secondly, on trad, if you’re not feeling a climb and want to lower, please try to down climb or back up your protection if you have to lower, so that you’re not dependent on just one placement.

Safe and pleasant climbing
