The Peak District 6th-7th July 2024

24 August 2024

By Deborah Barnes

The weekend weather outlook wasn’t too favourable. Luckily on the Friday the weather was wonderful.

Mike Bayley had arrived early with a friend and climbed at High Neb where they climbed Tango Crack, Little Slab, Boyd’s Crack. Second Eric’s Eliminate, Makeshift Climb, On Fate and Youth, Mike lead Youth, Frosty and seconded Warm Afternoon (that is a climb and not a statement!).

Debbie, Mike B, Mike F, Josh and Jonathan.

Debbie arrived and then Mike Flynn arrived and he lead Neb Corner, Duo Crack, Uno Crack; seconded Youth. Deb led on a couple of the V diffs.

That evening we ate at the Cheshire Cheese Pub and met Jonathan How at the campsite afterwards. We stayed at Hardhurst Farm, a fairly peaceful level campsite and reasonably close to Hathersage.

The following day we headed to Stanage Popular. Paul Kingston and his son Josh joined us and by midday Tara also had tracked us down.

Halfway through the day we all had to take shelter because of a shower but it didn’t stop us for too long.

Mike Flynn led and seconded Shuffle, led Boot Crack and Straight Chimney. Tara followed Twin Cracks VD, Paul lead then Josh and Jonathan seconded. Tara lead ‘Bishop’s Route’ S4a, Mike B seconded. Tara Followed ‘Straight Chimney’ VD, lead by Debbie & followed by Mike Flynn
Jonathan lead ‘Black Hawk Hell Crack’ S 4a, followed by Tara. Jonathan lead Boot Crack and Bishops Route with Paul K (plus Josh on boot crack).

Unfortunately on the Sunday the heavens opened and after a coffee at Outdoor in Hathersage we headed home.
